One purchase, two effects.

We work with two organisations that have been active on the ground for years. They do the work; we provide the means — every time a bottle is sold.

The trees are bought before the first bottle leaves the house. Not a promise for later, but a balance that decreases with every sale.

A tree is planted for every bottle sold. A hundred are held as a balance, and each sale draws one from it.

Bottles given away are deliberately not counted. They were not sold — and that is the only reason the number means anything.

A non-profit association founded in 2018 by Khalil Radi and Jaffet Davila. In Nicaragua, Ghana and India, people exchange collected plastic waste for a warm meal. In the Rivas region it is twenty plastic bottles for one meal.

The plastic returns to circulation: in Nicaragua the association runs two recycling facilities of its own, turning it into new products. Their auditor is Ernst & Young.

In all three countries, people on the ground approached the association rather than the other way round. In Mumbai it was a twenty-year-old who wrote on Instagram.

Oud Amal is shown in the association's gallery in Zurich. For every bottle sold there, 200 francs go to Buy Food with Plastic.

That is more than half the sale price after VAT. According to the association, 200 francs correspond to around 100 meals and 2,000 plastic bottles recycled.

Buy Food with Plastic publishes impact reports and, by its own account, keeps every receipt. Their auditor is Ernst & Young. What a contribution becomes on the ground is documented there — evidenced, and not written by us.

For the tree programme, every order receives its own certificate with a reference number. A single tree can be traced to a single bottle, verifiable by the person who bought it.

The flacon is crimped — the collar is pressed onto the neck under pressure. That keeps an extrait airtight for years, and it also makes it non-refillable. A refill would require a different closure, and therefore a different bottle.

So it is built to stay: glass and zamac, 350 grams, an object you keep rather than discard.
